Workshop: Using LinkedIn to get a job

Beirut - Lebanon, 25 October 2023, organised by MUBS

Within the framework of the ELEGANT Erasmus+ project activities, MUBS Office of International Affairs in collaboration with MUBS Computer Science Department organised on October 25, 2023 a seminar about “Using LinkedIn to Get a Job” with guest speakers Mr. Ghassan Jabre and Mr. Nizam Mhanna at MUBS Rashaya Campus.

Final Project Conference - Lebanon

Virtual Event, 20 October 2023, organised by MUBS

Beirut Arab University (BAU) and Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) organised the Final Project Conference on October 20, 2023. The conference was attended by Prof. Wael Nabil Abdelsalam (BAU President), Prof. Aref Al Soufi (National Erasmus+ Office in Lebanon), Ms. Orla Colclough (Delegation of the European Union in Lebanon), Dr Mazen Al Khatib (Director General MEHE) and Prof Nebojsa Stojcic (Project Coordinator). Prof Iraj Hashi presented project achievements and Outcomes. Project partners from Lebanon and Jordan presented their project team, developed modules, outcomes, impact, achievements, and experience at their institutions. Prof. Soliman Abdel-Hamid presented project impact from European perspectives. Guest speakers included Mr. Rony Chahoud (Cisco Education Program) and Mrs. Fatima Al Hashash (Huawei). Although the Conference was planned to be held in person, and some partners had already purchased their flight tickets, plans had to be changed because of the conflict in the Middle East and the fighting in the Israel-Lebanon border. In the end the Conference was held online.

Ethical Hacking Workshop at BAU

Beirut - Lebanon, 9 October 2023, organised by BAU

BAU held an Ethical Hacking Workshop on Monday, October 9, 2023. This workshop helped the ELEGANT project supported by ERASMUS+. Mr. Majd Dhainy and Mr. Ali Ayoub from Semicolon Academy led the workshop, which aimed to teach participants the fundamentals of ethical hacking.

Industry Collaboration and Curriculum Development Workshop on: Games and Artificial Intelligence

Stoke on Trent -United Kingdom, 3 - 5 October 2023, organised by SU

As its last contribution to the staff and curriculum development work of the ELEGANT project, Staffordshire University (SU) organised a three-day Workshop for colleagues from Lebanon on the theme of ‘Industry Collaboration and Curriculum  Development Workshop on: Games and Artificial Intelligence’ on 3-5 October 2023. In addition to the project leader at Staffordshire University, a number of other professors from the University also participated in this workshop, interacting with the Lebanese colleagues and helping them in the process of improving the curricula of existing courses as well as developing new subjects in their programmes. Colleagues from Beirut Arab University were particularly interested in learning about the programme in Computer Games design and development, hoping to start a similar programme at their institution soon.

ELEGANT at Erasmus+ Cluster Meeting

Beirut - Lebanon, 28 September 2023, organised by BAU and MUBS

As the EU announced 2023 as the European Year of Skills, the National Erasmus+ Office in Lebanon organized an online cluster meeting entitled “Year of Skills in Europe and Beyond: Focus on Lebanon” on 28 September 2023. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the issue of skills development for enhancing employability in Lebanon from the perspectives of Erasmus+ projects, other EU projects and various stakeholders including TVET, NGOs and SMEs.

Announcing the Results of the Competitions for Best Student Projects and Mentors

Dead Sea - Jordan, 20 September 2023, organised by PSUT

As one of the activities of the ELEGANT project, there were competitions for the Best Student Project at all five partner universities during the second half the academic year 2022-2023. At each Institution, the best project was selected by a committee of academic staff and announced locally. The best student projects were presented at the Final Project Conference at the Dead Sea Resort, 19-20 September 2023.

Final Project Conference - Jordan

Dead Sea - Jordan, 19-20 September 2023, organised by PSUT

The Final Project Conference was held on 19-20 September 2023 in the Dead Sea Resort in Jordan. Representative of all partners and a large contingent from Jordan participated in the Conference. Two partners were unable to participate in person and joined the Conference online. The Conference was an opportunity for all partners to get together and celebrate the great achievements of the project and also plan their future cooperation.

National Exploitation Seminar

Amman - Jordan, 18 September 2023, organised by PSUT

Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) hosted the National Exploitation Seminar of the ELEGANT project in Jordan. Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija (President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology) officially inaugurated the Seminar which was the beginning of three days of events relating to the successful completion of the ELEGANT project. The Seminar saw the participation of Prof. Mamoun Al-Debie (Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education), Prof. Thafer Assaraira (Chairman of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions), Prof. Ahmad Abu Elhaija (Director of the National Erasmus+ office in Jordan) as well as the ELEGANT project team from European countries, Jordan, and Lebanon, along with deans and directors from participating universities.
Professor Nebojša Stojčić and Prof. Iraj Hashi from the University of Dubrovnik (Coordinator) presented the Project Overview and Outcomes and summarised the main achievements of the project. Prof. Sobhi Abou Shahin (BAU), Prof. Bassem Kaissi (MUBS), Prof. Fahmi Abu Al-Rub (JUST), Prof. Tareq Azab (ABAU), and Prof. Walid Salameh (PSUT) presented the Impact of the ELEGANT Project at their universities. 49 participants attended the event.

Computer Games Design

Stoke on Trent -United Kingdom, 30 May - 2 June 2023, organised by SU

Staffordshire University (SU) was the organiser of the Industry Collaboration and Curriculum Development Workshop on: Games and Artificial Intelligence between 30th May and 2nd June 2023 at the SU campus in Stoke-on-Trent. A wide range of speakers from SU participated in this work shop and shared their experience with the 8 professors from Jordan and Lebanon partner universities. The role of industrial collaboration in designing and developing games was the focus of this workshop.

The workshop "Advanced Topics in AI, Cybersecurity, and Big Data" was hosted by the Universita Politechnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy from 6th to 10th February 2023. With a twelve dedicated participants this workshop with its three sub-groups provided a fertile ground for honing the skills essential for the development, modernization, and effective delivery of courses encompassing AI, cybersecurity, and big data.

IT related career skills: perspective of the industry

The Syndicate of Computer Science in Lebanon (SCSL), in collaboration with BAU and MUBS organised an online seminar to discuss the most needed technical and soft skills employers are looking for in graduates. The seminar was an opportunity to meet with representatives from different industries who shared their experience and highlighted important issues in relation to the IT background. 60 participants attended the event.
